Responding to a request from Wilson Elementary School to help improve traffic safety, Farmers Hawaii employees, Honolulu Police Department’s District 7 Community Policing Unit along with students and teachers, held a sign waving event in front of the school to remind drivers to slow down and watch for students crossing the streets. Farmers Insurance Hawaii employees joined the Honolulu Police Department and the downtown community at the third annual “Project Save Our Streets” event this morning at the corner of King and Bishop Streets in downtown Honolulu. Honolulu Community Sign Waiving Event

Date: Friday, December 21, 2012
Location: Haouli & South King Streets

Farmers Hawaii joined AARP, Walk Wise Hawaii, and the Honolulu Police Department in a community sign waving event on December 21, 2012 at Haouli and South King Streets by Times Market to celebrate the completion of a pedestrian activated crossing signal. Since 2007, after a pedestrian accident occurred within the crosswalk, AARP and the surrounding community have advocated monthly for a pedestrian activated crossing signal to be installed at this site. This crosswalk is utilized by seniors and by keiki who attend Lunalilo Elementary School or Washington Middle School. Read More >

Responding to a request from Likelike Elementary School to help remind drivers to slow down, Farmers Hawaii employees held a Hot Spots Traffic Safety event this morning to encourage safe driving and urge rush hour drivers to slow down and watch out for students going to school. Last year, a student and her mother were hit while in a crosswalk near the school. Farmers Hawaii employees along with the Honolulu Police Department’s District 5 Community Policing Unit joined with Likelike Elementary School students, teachers and parents in the sign waving event. School is back in session and Farmers Insurance Hawaii employees and Central Middle School students took to the streets this morning and held a Farmers Hawaii Hot Spots traffic safety event to remind drivers to slow down in school zones and be mindful of keiki walking to school. The intersection of Queen Emma Street at Vineyard Boulevard has a history of near misses and pedestrian accidents. In 2010, two students from Central Middle School were seriously injured when they were hit by a car while crossing this intersection before school. Read More >

Farmers Insurance Hawaii employees joined the Honolulu Police Department District 7 Community Policing Team and several other community groups today at the intersection of McCully Street and Kapiolani Boulevard. The traffic safety awareness event urged drivers to obey speed limits, avoid driving distractions such as talking on cell phones, and watch out for pedestrians crossing streets. Read More >
